Just a reminder that Michael Ondaatje's new novel, Divisadero, is meant to be published next week, on 17 September. I reviewed it a month or so ago, and concluded that:
"It is beautifully written, and in parts it is even beautiful. There were paragraphs, pages, whole sections that I was entranced by, and which spoke to me clearly and almost lovingly, even when the loss of love was their message. But there are great dislocations at the heart of this book, between lovers, between others who should love each other, and between different places at the same time and different times in the same place. I am not absolutely sure that he he has brought off the cohesion and synthesis he was presumably aiming at, but he has certainly brought off something well worth reading, and this is a book which will make you think long and hard about who you are."

There's an interview with Ondaatje in today's Scotsman http://living.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1555472007

I saw another review which said that Ondaatje's work had "secret stitching" - an intriguing notion, particularly for one who has never read him.
