I've spent the morning at the London wetland centre at Barnes again, and we had a pretty sunny morning; knowing that the rest of the country is under several feet of water, I thought some more cheerful pictures might be welcome! Above, reedmace (not bulrush, please, although I gather some botanists have given way to the popular error). And below, a family of mallard sport on a flooded lawn, and a Heathrow-bound jet is reflected in one of the deeper pools.
There's a lot in flower at the moment, and I have chosen some water lilies, and great drifts of a white flower I think may be a veronica, looking almost wintry in fierce silhouette against the sunlight. And on the same flowers, a peacock butterfly, a dark shape in the centre, and a closer version - not a very good photograph but such a lovely thing that I could not leave it out.
Reedmace not bullrush - well said! DP
